Lucia O'Connor-McCarthy
was born in Hertfordshire in 1988. She was bought her first camera at aged ten and since then her passion for recording her experiences in life has only grown. What began as a hobby has now progressed into Lucia's ultimate self-expression. She always had creative influences growing-up, her father trained as an artist and continually inspired her to express herself visually.

Lucia currently uses a Nikon D80 but also has a love for polaroids and the light leaks often produced by toy film cameras. Her main work consists of a mixture between fashion and beauty images but also images which she has altered using textures and blur techniques to create a painterly effect. These images make up Lucia's 'Headscapes' exhibition.

'HEADSCAPES' represents a manifestation of a constant stream of ideas and concepts. The images embody Lucia's chapters of thought; "If you were able to paint sudden bursts of thought and emotion, the images in Headscapes are what mine might look like." Many of the images are blurred and layered with multiple textures blended in with the original photograph, hinting at the inspiration of the often dream-like reflective thought processes behind them. "What you are actually seeing when you look at these images, are still clips of the film in my mind."

Lucia has recently moved on to work with other passionately creative people such as musicians and work alongside some of the many talented people in the fashion industry. In 2010, Lucia will look forward to continuing her philosophy studies at Trinity College Dublin and her work as a freelance photographer.
