Thomas Pickworth founded the business in 1840, his original draper's shop was situated in the Market Place on the site now occupied by Barclays Bank. In 1849 the business transferred to a site on the corner of Market Place and Biggin Street introducing carpets, floor coverings and a mail order service. In 1969 Paul Jackson, the Great, Great Grandson of Thomas Pickworth joined the business. Another move took place in 1975 moving to the present site in Wards End. Where Paul and his wife Anne now trade from at the modern furnishing store in Wards End offering a personal service that has continued for 167 years.
