Joseph Lester Putt opened his painting and decorating shop at the Manor House on Sparrow Hill in 1911, where his two sons Harold and Herbert were born. 1925 saw the business move to the present site at 67 Nottingham Road expanding to doing signwriting, as well as the core work of decorating houses both inside and out.
Eventually the two sons were to carry on the business until the war intervened when Harold became a member of the AFS (Auxiliary Fire Service) and Herbert joined The RAF (Royal Air Force) as a mechanic. At the end of the war, it was business as usual; the shop extending to its present size. Herbert's son David later joined and together with his wife, Erica continues in the Putt tradition of service with a smile, stocking a large selection of wallpapers and paints as well as giving advice on all aspects of decorating.
