After sorting through their trash, the rag picker woman will carry the trash to the nearest sorting depot. The bags can accommodate anything up to 30kilos of waste. Many of the rag picker’s suffer from back-pain, from the continuous strain of bending over to pick up waste. The women will separate the material into four categories: paper, card, plastic and “other” (glass, fabric, etc). The waste is then separated into further categories once it reaches the depot.
